Sanjay School, the Porvorim-based school for people with special needs, will from next year begin a course of 'sign language' a facility hitherto unavailable in Goa.
This was announced by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant who said, his Government will commence the course from next year.
“A sign language course, which was not available until now in the State, will also be offered from June 2023 at the Sanjay school for special children," Sawant said, while speaking at an event in the School to launch the logo of 'Purple Fest' a three-day event proposed to be held in January exclusively for persons with disability (PwDs).
Social Welfare Minister, Subhash Phaldesai, newly appointed Chairman of Sanjay School, Siddharth Kuncolienkar, outgoing Sanjay School chief, Guru Pawaskar and other officials attended the event.
Sawant said, the government will strive to provide 100% facilities to 'Divyangs' in Goa and change how the State is perceived.
"In future, Goa will be the destination for the disabled," Sawant said, adding his government will work to ensure important places, including some beaches, are made accessible and friendly to Divyangs.
The chief minister said, the "Purple Fest" should be made a permanent affair just like the Film festival.
