The opposition Congress, Goa Forward and the Aam Admi Party leaders, including the MLAs turned up at the historic Lohia Maidan to express their solidarity with the civil society’s initiative under the banner of Goemkar Ek Pavl Ekcharachem against divisive and communal forces.
The politicos, however, had to take their seats in the audience even as members of the civil society spoke from the dais.
Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao along with Party President Amit Patkar and party MLA Alton D’Costa entered the Lohia Maidan along with the Aam Aadmi Party MLAs, Capt Venzy Viegas and Cruz Silva seated behind. AAP president Amit Palekar along with party leaders Adv S Tilve and Sandesh Talekar were also seated in the audience.
Goa Forward party chief Vijai Sardesai had entered the Lohia Maidan along with Congress MLA Adv Carlos Alvares and party leader Durgadas Kamat. The trio along with GF leader Akbar Mulla were seen seated at one place. Other Congress leaders seen seated in the audience, included ex-GPCC Chief Girish Chodankar, Capt Viriato Fernandes.
Former MLA Alina Saldanha along with historian Prof Prajal Sakhardande, city-based businessman and thinker Datta Damodar Naik, activists Tara Kerkar, Sabita Mascarenhas, Pratima Coutinho, Warren Alemao and others, were all seated in the audience.
Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition Yuri has congratulated and appreciated the civil society for gathering under the banner of 'Ek Pavl Ekcharachem" to condemn the politics of divisiveness. The traditional social harmony Ekchar, Bhavchar of Goans is put on test by the BJP government by spreading the venom of religious discord, he said.
Reacting to the mega Meeting at Lohia Maidan, the Leader of Opposition thanked all those who participated to preserve communal fabric of Goa.
“Such an expression of solidarity as seen today was needed to send the signal that the Goans cannot be divided on communal grounds. Goans live peacefully respecting each other's faith," Yuri added.
