In a significant show of strength, scores of supporters of political reservation for Goa’s Scheduled Tribes responded to the call of ‘Mission Political Reservation for STs of Goa’ and held a protest at the Azad Maidan on Wednesday evening.

The tribals have for long been demanding reservation of 12% seats in the State Assembly and on Wednesday held the protest to coincide with the birth anniversary of famed Jharkhand tribal independence activist Birsa Munda.

A large number of protesters who gathered for the protest in the capital city were stopped by the police when they began marching towards the official residence of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.

During the protest, a demand was raised that Sawant immediately quit as Tribal Welfare Minister (shed the portfolio which he currently holds).
