BITS Pilani opens new basketball courts

Director of BITS Pilani, K K Birla Goa Campus, Prof Raghurama G inaugurated two newly-built synthetic basketball courts at its campus. Dr Chandu G Lamani, PE instructor and in-charge - Sports Activity Centre & Sports, along with other senior officials including Prof D M Kulkarni (Dean, Administration), Prof. Ramesha C K (Associate Dean, Students Welfare Division), AK Patil (Estate Manager) were present during the inaugural function.  

Students’ basketball team members expressed their happiness on getting international standard courts in the campus. Captain of the boys’ basketball team, Pushkar Choupne thanked the director for supporting them and said his team will strive hard to bring laurels to the institute. After the inaugural function, an exhibition match was played between students’ teams.  

Dr Lamani stated that “these all-weather synthetic basketball courts are being introduced in Goa for the first time at BITS Pilani, Goa Campus. The courts are fully synthetic and built as per international parameters and standards. The courts, along with exclusive player sitting gallery and a spectator sitting gallery, are built at cost of around ` 40 lakhs. The courts will be most appropriate during the monsoon as even after heavy rain, it can be cleared in about 15 minutes to provide a slip-free court to 

the players.”  

These courts will enable BITS Goa to host basketball tournaments of both national and international level.
