KTCL = Karnataka Transport Corporation Limited??

Politics supported by history is seemingly the mantra for officials in decision-making in the State-owned public transport behemoth.

No other explanation would hold for the bizarre decision of the top echelons in the Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL) to lease out 70 buses from its woefully inadequate fleet for election campaigning (ostensibly to ferry crowds to PM’s public meet) in Ankola, Karnataka.

The diversion of the 70 buses from its fleet to Karnataka earlier this week threw public transportation in Goa in total disarray, leaving daily commuters fuming and stranded at several bus-stands.

But KTCL’s mandarins, who took the decision, have history to back them perhaps. The State-owned transporter is named after the Kadamba dynasty which at one point in history ruled Goa or large parts of it with Chandor as its capital. And the roots of the Kadambas lie firmly in Karnataka.

What’s wrong if the BJP MLA from Navelim, Ulhas Naik Tuenkar, who is its chairman converts it into ‘Karnataka Transport Corporation Limited’ for a day or two? After all, Kadambas are from Karnataka, aren’t they?
