LPG price politics

| SEPTEMBER 01, 2023, 12:48 AM IST

The Centre’s announcement of a Rs 200 reduction on 14 kg LPG cylinders for the public is seemingly the beginning of its attempt to woo voters ahead of the approaching Lok Sabha polls.

Politicians including Chief Minister Pramod Sawant made a beeline to thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the move, hailing it as a ‘’huge relief’’ to households across the country.

The BJP also marketed this price cut brilliantly, terming it as a ‘’gift’’ from the PM on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.

Never mind that the price cut reeks of deceit, what with the meagre Rs 200 is hardly comparable to the nearly 100% increase since 2020.

Nonetheless, the LPG price cut was fodder for the troll armies on either side of the political divide to unleash their meme-power on the various social media platforms, where one can expect frenzied activity until the Lok Sabha elections are done and dusted.
