The Catechetical Cell of St Thomas Church, Aldona, Goa under the able leadership of the Parish Vicar and Animator Fr Tomas Lobo organised “Kantaranchi Sanz” – an evening of rendition of Konkani songs of old and new at the St Thomas Church grounds, Aldona. The event themed “Songitachea Talar Gaitanv Gannim, Suadik Tallean Kortanv Porkonddnni” included performances by young and budding catechism children singing Konkani songs of legendary composers of yesteryears and also compositions of Fr Tomas Lobo. The programme began with a prayer dance. The evening programme also included dances based on old Konkani songs performed by the young Sunday school children. “Kantaranchi Sanz” an initiative of the Catechetical Cell of St Thomas Church, Aldona was conceptualised with a three-fold purpose: to celebrate the feast of St Cecilia, the model of faith and patroness of singers and musicians, to provide a platform for our youngsters to showcase their latent talent for singing and to instill in their hearts the love for Konkani-an important and integral part of our rich social and cultural identity. Chief Guest Fr Jose Silveira SJ, incharge of the Baga Retreat House and the Guest of Honour Adv Carlos Alvares Ferreira, Aldona MLA had a word of appreciation to the organisers and the performers. Fr Tomas Lobo welcomed the gathering. Coordinator of the Catechetical Cell Ronald Victoria proposed the vote of thanks. Jonas Correia and Sandhya A Fernandes compered the programme.
