PANAJIKnown for its folk music tradition, Goa has kirtankars of all ages, from kids to elderly, many trained professionally in this art. Gomantak Sant Sevak Mandal's Kirtan Vidyalaya at Ponda has been offering training and tutelage to children in the art of kirtan from tender age, and this year the school has begun the process of admission for kids above 10 years of age. “Children who are inclined to learn the art of kirtan can get admission in our school,” says Suhas Vaze, principal of Kirtan Vidyalaya. The school trains children in Kirtan, Stotra, Gondhal, Jogva, Bhagwadgeeta, Hanuman Chalisa etc. Under Vaze’s guidance hundreds of child kirtankars have already been trained in Goa and many are performing on stage too. The classes are conducted every Sunday at Gavnekar building in Ponda from 3.30 to 6 pm, and parents can get their children admitted, says Devanand Surlakar secretary, Kirtan Vidyalaya who can be contacted on 9373442676.
