PANAJI: World Oceans Day, celebrated annually on June 8, serves as a global reminder of the critical role our oceans play in sustaining life on earth. A beach clean-up drive was conducted at Miramar beach by the Rotary Club of Dona Paula, in collaboration with The Energy and Research Institute (TERI), Responsible Earth Foundation, YIMBY, the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB), and the NCC Cadets from St Xavier’s College to celebrate the World Oceans Day.
The cleanup aimed to address the pressing issue of ocean pollution and promote sustainable practices. The volunteers collected 400 plus kilograms of litter from the beach. It was sorted and handed over for recycling, reinforcing the commitment to a circular economy and waste management. “The health of our oceans is vital to the health of our planet. Today’s event underscores the necessity of working together to ensure the sustainable management of our marine resources,” said Gaurav Kenkre, president of the Rotary Club of Dona Paula.
