PANAJI: Fr Joseph John Fernandes (60), a priest on the staff at the Our Lady of Succour Church, Socorro, passed away following a cardiac arrest at a private hospital early Monday morning.
Hailing from Agonda, Fr Fernandes served as parish priest at Chorao, Corgao, Bastora and Sirsaim, while also serving as Assistant Priest at Chandor, Betalbatim, Assolna, Cuncolim and Vasco, before being posted at the Socorro Church.
The final rites were conducted at the St Anne’s Church at Agonda later on Monday evening.
“Late Fr Fernandes was posted at the Socorro Church only in December 2020 and was very fond of the youth. We will miss him dearly,” said Fr Santana Carvalho, parish priest of Socorro Church.
