The National Girl Child Day was celebrated on January 24 and various programmes were organised for the girls across the State. Various programs including awareness campaigns on Save the girl child, child sex ratios, and creating a healthy and safe environment for a girl child are organised on this day, an initiative of the Ministry of Women and Child Development.
To celebrate the day, Valpoi Samrat Club had organised a kite flying competition for girls at the Government Secondary School in Valpoi. The first prize was bagged by Vaishnavi Karekar. The second prize went to Ananya Vaingankar while the third prize was pocketed by Archita Pokle. Two girls, Shrutika Shirodkar and Veda Pokle were given consolation prizes. Anil Pokle and Prema Chari played the judges. The contest was inaugurated by a teacher from the school, Sunil Devkar who expressed his joy over holding such an exciting competition for the girls by Samrat Club.
Initially, Anuradha Malshekar, president, Valpoi Samrat Club, welcomed the gathering and expressed the motive behind organising such a contest for girls. Deepak Pokle delivered the vote of thanks.
