MARGAO: Betalbatim Veterans pipped Benaulim Veterans 1-0 to enter the quarter-finals of the 2nd Kala Mogi all Goa Veterans football tournament, at Betalbatim ground, on Wednesday.
Fr Franky Fernandes was the star of the match with his power packed shots as he opened the scoreline for Betalbatim Veterans after beautifully tapping the ball into the far corner of Benaulim goal in 6th minute of the game. Pele Fernandes of Benaulim Veterans took a powerful shot from the edge of the box which missed the frame. The half time score remained 1-0 in favour of Betalbatim.
In the second session, Charles of Benaulim Veterans missed the opportunity to level the score in 37th minute while Rocky,Jhonson and Patrick played well for Benaulim but failed to find the equaliser due to the rock solid defence of Betalbatim which consisted of Niazi Shaikh, Nelson and Luis. Fr Franky Fernandes missed the opportunity inflate the lead in the dying minutes of the game.
