PANAJI: A unique book documenting Goa’s post-colonial political history will be released on Monday by former Chief Minister and Rajya Sabha MP Luizinho Faleiro at Menezes Braganza Hall, Panjim. Titled ‘Post Colonial Politics in Goa – Cabinet Government, from Liberation to Statehood’, the book is authored by Dr A. Freddy Fernandes. Guests of honour include Adv Carlos Alvares Ferreira and Satadru Ojha, with a keynote address by author Alexandre Moniz Barbosa and senior journalist Jovito Lopes as MC.
Now in its third edition and celebrating 25 years, the book analyses ministries from Dayanand Bandodkar to Dr Wilfred de Souza. It also documents the Opinion Poll, language agitation, Konkan Railway issue, and trends in Goa’s politics from Liberation till the first Assembly term (1989–1994).
It includes data-rich appendices on CMs, opposition leaders, governors, speakers and election results till 2022.
Widely used by scholars and students, it’s available in American university libraries.
The book poses a key question—how does a state with political instability continue to lead in development and well-being? The answer is left to readers.
