St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar, who celebrated his birthday on Thursday, distributed fruit-bearing saplings to the villagers of Azossim-Mandur to mark the occasion. The sapling distribution function was held at the Mandur panchayat wherein fruit-bearing plants of coconut, lime, mango, betel and others were distributed. Speaking on the occasion, Borkar urged the locals to plant the saplings in their backyards as he said that it is important to plant trees to maintain Goa’s greenery which is deteriorating by the passing day. Also present were Mandur sarpanch Prashant Naik, deputy sarpanch Tejasvi Naik, panchas Premanand Kurtikar and Nandesh Mayekar. Earlier, the panchayat held a small function to celebrate Borkar’s birthday by cutting of the cake.
