The Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) has asked the Airport Authority of India (AAI) to expedite handing over a space at the Dabolim airport’s multi-level car parking building to the Goa police within to facilitate the shifting of the Dabolim Airport Police Station from its current makeshift tin structure.
Taking suo-motu cognisance of a news report dated June 20, that the airport police station had been functioning from a 40 sq ft temporary tin cabin for eight years, the Commission initiated proceedings.
In its inquiry report issued on November 7, the Commission observed that despite repeated assurances, authorities failed to provide a permanent and adequate facility for the police station. During the hearing, the Airport Director informed the Commission that the identified space in the parking building basement had been earmarked for the police station and airport traffic cell.
“The Commission recommends that the Respondent No. 2 (AAI) shall expedite the handing over of the area admeasuring 190 square meters (Basement Level 1), in the Multi Level Car Parking Building, Goa International Airport, to the Respondent No. 1 (Director General of Goa Police) within 30 days from today,” reads the inquiry report by GHRC Acting Chairperson Desmond D’Costa and Member Pramod Kamat on Friday.
The Commission has further directed the DGP to ensure that the required infrastructure is installed and the police station and traffic cell are shifted to the new premises within 60 days.
Under Section 18(e) of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993, both authorities have been asked to submit an action report to the Commission on or before January 7, 2026.
