Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrao ordained 12 new priests for the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman at the See Cathedral, Old Goa, on Wednesday, in the presence of Auxiliary Bishop Simao Fernandes and Bishop of Sindhudurg Agnelo Pinheiro.
In a celebration attended by many priests, religious and lay faithful, the Deacons Cidroy Fernandes (Mandrem), Bevan Rebello (Galgibaga), Aaron D’Souza (Colvale), Nion Colaco (Nuvem), Canjoy Fernandes (Velim), Valancio Fernandes (Santa Cruz), Elidio Noronha (Salvador De Mundo), Lindon Sequeira (Navelim), Dion Rodrigues (Navelim), Sanvy Cardoso (Utorda), Jofhuo Fernandes (Cansaulim) and Aestrony Costa (Betalbatim) were ordained as priests and posted in different parishes.
In his homily, Cardinal Ferrao highlighted the role of a good shepherd and reminded the priestly candidates that Jesus calls them to be Good Shepherds like him to the people who will be entrusted under their care. This, he suggested they could do by becoming the heart (love), hands (service) and eyes (mercy) of Jesus.
He urged the newly ordained priests to have love and concern for others, to be at the service of others and to look at others with eyes of mercy.
The newly ordained priests will now take charge of their new assignments and were presented with their letter of appointment by Auxiliary Bishop Simiao Fernandes.
They new assignments are Fr Cidroy Fernandes (Assistant to Parish Priest of the Church of St. Jerome, Mapusa); Fr Bevan Rebello (Assistant to Parish Priest of the Church of Holy Cross, Quepem); Fr Aaron DSouza (Assistant to Parish Priest of the Church of St Joseph, Usgao); Fr Nion Colaco (Assistant to Parish Priest of the Church of Our lady of Piety, Piedade, Divar); Fr Canjoy Fernandes (Assistant to Parish Priest of the Church of St Alex, Calangute); Fr Valancio Fernandes (Assistant to Parish Priest of the Church of Mother of God, Saligao); Fr Elidio Noronha (Assistant to Parish Priest of the Church of Our lady of Health, Sancoale); Fr Lindon Sequeira (Assistant to Parish Priest of the Church of St Michael, Taleigao); Fr Dion Rodrigues (Secretary of the Pastoral Institute, St Pius X, Old Goa); Fr Sanvy Cardoso (Assistant to Parish Priest of the Church of St Christopher, Tivim); Fr Jofhuo Fernandes (Assistant to Parish Priest of the Church of St Theresa of Jesus, Chaudi, Canacona) and Fr Aestrony Costa (Assistant to Parish Priest of the Church of St Jerome, Mapusa).
Cardinal Ferrao congratulated the newly ordained priests and offered his best wishes and blessings to them. Fr Snyter Pereira was the Master of Ceremony for the ordination, while Fr Candido Fernandes took care of the Liturgy and Fr Romeo Monteiro led the Choir during the Mass.
