Councillor Nutan Bicholkar is set to be elected unopposed as chairperson of Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) after she was the lone councillor to have filed her nomination on Thursday.
Bicholkar will, however, be officially declared as the new MMC chairperson on Friday, as a special meeting has been convened at 11 am to conduct the election.
Councillors were given a time till 12 noon on Thursday to file their nominations to the chairperson’s post and Bicholkar was the only councillor to submit her nomination to MMC Chief Officer Chandrakant Shetkar in the presence of Deputy Speaker and Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza and councillors.
Priya Mishal resigned as MMC chairperson on February 8 and her resignation letter was accepted by the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) on February 14.
