BJP Goa Mahila Morcha protests over defeat of Women’s Reservation Bill

PANAJI

BJP Goa Mahila Morcha staged a protest rally in Panaji on Tuesday condemning the defeat of the Women’s Reservation Bill in Parliament and accusing Congress of denying women greater political representation.

The rally began from the BJP office in Panaji and was attended by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and BJP Goa President Damu Naik, both of whom criticised Congress for opposing the bill.

“The only party to have produced the country’s first woman Prime Minister has now denied support to this bill. Prime Minister Narendra Modi even asked Congress to take credit for introducing it, yet they failed to support it,” CM Sawant said.

Women leaders participating in the morcha also expressed anger, stating that by defeating the bill, Congress had insulted women voters and created widespread resentment.

During the protest Poriem MLA Deviya Rane and Siolim MLA Delilah Lobo were present. Rane said BJP has consistently worked for women’s empowerment, while Congress has repeatedly created obstacles to such reforms.
