MARGAO
Margao Congress leader Chirag Datta Naik has called for increased police patrolling in the city to ensure that law and order is maintained.

“Yesterday’s incident around Margao indicates that law and order have collapsed, which is a serious matter. There is no fear of the police. I myself do not fear any minister, but I do fear the police. These incidents are happening because the police are being suppressed by political leaders. There should be fear of the police to ensure peace, law and order,” Chirag said.

He also suggested that police should have details of ‘rokda’ labourers who stand near the Margao Municipality.

“Outside the Margao Municipality, between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m., at least 120 daily wage ‘rokda’ labourers gather. I do not want to stop their work, but no one has any information about them. The police should have their identification details. There should be day-to-day monitoring and patrolling by the police, along with a check-post at the site. Such a casual approach by the police and the local administration will someday lead to an untoward incident, which will be highly regrettable,” he said.
