PANAJI: The Southwest Monsoon remained active in Goa with moderate rain in most places and heavy showers in some parts. Though the seasonal rainfall is 6.2 per cent above normal, the continuous downpour has caused disruptions across the State.

Many low-lying areas, including the KTC bus stand and Patto in Panaji, were waterlogged, making travel difficult. Pothole-ridden roads added to the trouble for commuters. The Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services reported nearly 50 rain-related incidents on August 28 and 29.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Goa, a trough stretching from south Chhattisgarh to north Kerala, passing through a cyclonic circulation over Vidarbha and interior Karnataka between 5.8 and 7.6 km above mean sea level, continues to persist. Because of this, Goa is on a Yellow alert till September 4.
