Veteran Goan writer and Jnanapith Awardee Damodar Mauzo’s book, ‘The Wait and other stories’ has been longlisted for the Valley of Words (VoW) Book Awards in the ‘English Translations’ category.

Valley of Words (VoW) is a one-of-a-kind, not-for-profit and volunteer-driven initiative of The Valley of Words Foundation Trust, which has now become a pan-Indian celebration of Indian writing and artistry.

Over the course of the last six years, VoW has brought together writers, artists, critics, thespians, craftspeople, readers, and listeners in its Literature and Arts Festival, which also encompasses the annual Book Awards.

It is a signature event where VoW acknowledges the authors, the best books published in the previous calendar year in eight categories: Hindi Fiction, Non-fiction and Translations from Bhashas of Bharat, English Fiction, Nonfiction and Translations from Bhashas of Bharat besides the best offerings in children’s’ literature and writings for young adults.

Valley of Words Shabdavali believes that literature and art have the potential to engage people of all age groups – especially students and the youth – to look beyond the immediate, place ‘facts’ in perspective, question the ‘why’, engage in lateral thinking, and explore options that have the potential of making the world a better place.

A keen focus on intergenerational dialogue encourages the young and old alike to explore new passions, re-discover the art of listening, engage in critical discourse, and appreciate excellence in others.
