The Davorlim Village Panchayat on Monday cracked the whip against the illegal gaddas and other business structures located along the roadside near the power house.
Sarpanch Saiesh Rajadyax has now appealed to the neighbouring Margao Municipal Council to clear the encroachments and illegal vending near the Aquem power house junction, as the jurisdiction of the place falls under Margao.
The Davorlim Sarpanch blamed an engineer of the Margao Municipality for trying to scuttle the drive against illegal gaddas and encroachment near the power house on the Davorlim side of the junction. “The engineer had the audacity to call up in order to stop the drive against the illegal gaddas and encroachments,” the sarpanch told the media.
In an operation that lasted for a few hours, the panchayat machinery had 7-8 illegal gaddas removed from the roadside. The panchayat has also told the fish vendors to clear the roadside of the encroachments or face action.
The sarpanch said the Davorlim Panchayat would write to the Chief Officer of the Margao Municipal Council to clear the encroachments at the power house road junction in the interest and safety of the people of Davorlim. “With today’s demolition drive, we want to send a strong message to those indulging in illegal activities that the Panchayat will not remain a silent spectator to illegalities. The Panchayat has initiated the action as per the demands raised by the gram sabha. Similar action will be taken against illegalities, taking the panchayat members into confidence,” Rajadyax said.
