A fish-laden truck jumped the median at the accident-prone stretch at Bambolim, two days after a fatal crash there.

Exactly two days after a fatal collision claimed two lives, the notorious Bambolim slope witnessed yet another accident on Thursday — this time, a fishing truck climbed over the central divider. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
The cause of this self-accident remains unknown, but the incident has once again drawn attention to the safety concerns along the highway stretch.
After the fatal mishap, the Traffic Department sent a reminder to the Public Works Department (PWD) to raise the height of the divider and barriers by at least one metre to prevent vehicles from crossing into oncoming lanes during accidents. As an immediate measure, the department has recommended placing concrete barrier blocks of similar height along the median.
It has also urged the installation of speed radar cameras at strategic points and adequate signage indicating “Speed Limit” and “Go Slow” to warn motorists approaching the slope and adjoining service road.
Police had earlier written to the PWD with similar recommendations, particularly highlighting the Bambolim-Cujira corridor as a danger zone requiring urgent safety interventions.
In Tuesday’s tragic crash, Yogendar Singh, 42, President of the All India Sepak Takraw Association and a resident of Delhi, and Ankit Baliyan, a senior athlete from Uttar Pradesh, were killed on the spot. The two, in Goa for the sports tournament, died after a speeding tanker veered across the divider, rammed their rental car and plunged into the gorge below. The impact destroyed part of the barrier and tore down road signage. The driver was soon arrested.
