Designing creative minds with B Arch at GIT

Architecture is the mother of art and science of designing space, building structures, especially for habitable use. India is historically known for its architectural wonders like Ajanta, Ellora Caves, Hampi, fabulous palaces and forts, planned cities like Jaipur and post-independence planned cities like Chandigarh. In the modernist era, IIM-Ahmedabad by Architect Louis Kahn and Mill Owner’s Association by Le Corbusier have been globally acclaimed.

Bachelor in Architecture Course:
Bachelor of Architecture is a 5-year degree course which includes a curriculum dealing with tuning students for designing buildings. It also includes self-exploration, observations, documentation, sketching, study tours, group work, model making, photography and allied activities.
Apart from learning about the historical architectural marvels, students are exposed to history of contemporary architects, Western and Indian. Students also deal with city-level issues and concerns, landscape. Students have to present individual project work.

Where to Study?
A Good School of Architecture has excellent academic infrastructure, perfect ambience having well connected with practising professionals. It should expose students to enrich their design intent by organising case studies, site studies and study tours to places of architecture and historic interest.
Students should have exposure through workshops on design and construction subjects. Exposure to interactive exterior green spaces, art courts, sculpture courts and construction yards are also important.

How to apply?
Admission to B Arch is much easier as compared to other professional courses. The candidates need to clear only the pre-university course and National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA), conducted by Council of Architecture.

Career prospects in Architecture:
A student after completing B Arch and after successful registration with Council of Architecture can practice Architecture using the title Architect. A student of Bachelor of Architecture can also work as an associate Architect in an Architectural firm or can pursue post-graduation in Architecture or allied fields such as Landscape, Urban Design, Sustainable Architecture, Interior Design, Conservation or planning fields such as Urban and Regional Planning, Housing Infrastructure planning and practice in these allied fields.
