The Divine Mercy Sunday will be celebrated at the Archdiocesan level at the Carmelite Monastery, Aquem, Margao by the Divine Mercy Movement on April 24.
The adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will be from 4 pm to 4.30 pm followed by Solemn Mass presided over by Archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrão at 5 pm.
Guidelines of the Divine Mercy Movement in the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman will be released by Archbishop Ferrão at this Archdiocesan level celebration of Divine Mercy Sunday.
It may be recalled that Fidelis Bonamis, a parishioner of Our Lady of Grace Parish, Margao, introduced this devotion at the Carmelite Monastery, Margao in the 1980’s.
Realising its relevance for our times, the Carmelite priests Fr Anastasio Gomes and Fr Antonio Silva made known this devotion through their preaching and writings all over Goa. It was in this background, that the Archbishop requested the Carmelites to animate the “Divine Mercy Movement” as an apostolate of the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman, after giving appropriate catechesis and printing relevant literature.
Since 2017, 137 groups have been formed in Parishes/Chapels by the Carmelite friars to promote devotion to the Divine Mercy. Relevant literature/books were also published. Seminars and sessions on relevant themes were organised as a part of the promotion of this movement.
To strengthen them further, the Archbishop will be releasing a few “guidelines” at the end of the Mass and establishing an Executive Committee to promote and coordinate the activities of the Divine Mercy Movement. All have been invited to this celebration.
