A 69-year-old man from Comba-Margao died after being struck by a train near St Jose De Areal on Friday night.
Vasco Railway Police said the incident was reported at around 10.29 pm on Friday, when 108 Ambulance staff informed police about a seriously injured man found near the Carbon Factory in St Jose De Areal.
The victim was rushed to the South Goa District Hospital at Margao, where doctors declared him brought dead.
The deceased was later identified as Akthar Khan of Comba-Margao. Preliminary inquiry revealed that Khan may have been walking or crossing the railway track when he was hit by a passing train.
An inquest panchanama was conducted, and the body was sent for post-mortem at SGDH Margao. The body was later handed over to family for final rites.
Vasco Railway Police have registered a case of unnatural death under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. PSI Krishna Talpi conducted the enquiry under the supervision of PI Amarnath Passi and guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
