The Margao Urban Health Centre has intensified its drive against vector-borne diseases in the commercial capital.

Health workers have been drafted into the Margao municipal wards across the Margao and Fatorda areas of the civic body to undertake fogging operations as a matter of abundant caution.

Margao Urban Health Officer, Dr Baptista Mascarenhas, told The Goan that no case of dengue or malaria has been reported from anywhere in the city since the last one week. He, however, said that the health centre has initiated several proactive measures to keep the mosquitoes at bay.

Dr Baptista informed that health workers fan out to various wards to undertake spraying and fogging as part of the operation.

“The Margao Health Centre has not registered any case of dengue or malaria since last week. But we have decided to maintain the tempo against vector-borne diseases. Since Margao is the commercial capital and home to several construction projects, our workers are on the job to contact the migrant workers and issue them health cards after a check-up,” he said, while seeking support from the public to keep mosquitoes at bay during the rainy season.
