Our Lady of Lourdes High School, Valpoi manager and Our Lady of Lourdes Church Parish Priest Fr Santan Gama will celebrate the Silver Jubilee of his priesthood on Sunday.
Priests from Goa and Pune coming under the MSFS Province along with Provincial Fr Johnson Gonsalves will take part in the Eucharistic Celebrations at Our Lady of Piety Church, Belgundi about 12 kilometres from Belagavi.
The villagers and the MSFS fathers have also organised a grand felicitation for Fr Gama, who hails from a Goan settler’s family at Belgundi village.
Born to the late Caridade Rosario Francisco D'Gama and Concessao Alvares e Gama from Belgundi village, after his primary and higher secondary education in Belagavi Fr Gama in 1988 joined MSFS minor seminary in Bastora, Goa, where he completed his second year PUC at St Xavier’s Colleges, Mapusa.
Later, he completed his further studies in Pune, Nagpur and his regency at Aldona-Goa. He was ordained priest at SFS Church, Pune on April 11, 1999.
After taking up various responsibilities in Pune, Goa and Belagavi, Fr Gama at present is serving as parish priest of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Valpoi and also the Manager of the Our Lady of Lourdes School.
“I am extremely happy that I am serving in Goa, the land of my ancestors and celebrating my silver Jubilee in my village which may inspire many more vocations from the Belagavi region,” Fr Gama told The Goan. “Many Goan priests and laity will be attending the silver jubilee celebrations,” he said.
