Goa Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai on Friday said that the ongoing debate over Sanatan Dharma is “unfortunate” and “unwanted”.
Speaking to media, Pillai said that Sanatan Dharam issue is an “unwanted dispute” willfully made in the Southern part of India. “This is very unfortunate and unwanted,” he commented.
The Governor said that Sanatan Dharma shouldn’t be interpreted in any other form. “And one should understand or rather I urge everyone to see that for us Nation comes first, Politics and religion later,” he added.
Tamil Nadu minister Udhayanidhi Stalin sparked major controversy through his remark calling for eradication of Sanatan Dharma, and blaming it for promoting division and discrimination among people; he said the statement was a "planned" one.
Among several BJP leaders and Minister’s slamming Stalin was Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who during his visit to Bhopal, earlier this week, said that eradicating Sanatan Dharma from the country is the agenda of INDIA alliance and hence Hindus need to wake up and show the Opposition bloc its place.
Sawant had also said that the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) changed its name to INDIA alliance, which is actually new wine in an old bottle.
“Changing the name does not change the policies and intentions. Their agenda is to eradicate Sanatan Hindu Dharma. Hence, it is necessary for every Hindu to oppose this alliance in the coming 2024 Lok Sabha polls,” he had said.
