The State government has announced the establishment of a new Veterinary College, named “Goa College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences,” at Usgao.

According to Nitin Naik, Director of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, the college premises will be constructed on land identified by Survey Numbers 305 and 308/1-B in the village of Usgao.

The government notification emphasizes the significance of this initiative, stating: “The Government of Goa deems it expedient to establish a Veterinary College in the State of Goa with the title ‘Goa College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences’ for the purpose of Veterinary Education (BVSc & AH Program), training, and exposure of Veterinary students in all dimensions, along with fostering the development of an entrepreneurial culture.”

The primary objective of the college is to enhance educational opportunities in veterinary sciences and animal husbandry, addressing the growing need for skilled professionals in this sector.

By establishing this college, the State government seeks to strengthen Goa’s veterinary education infrastructure, ensuring that students are well-equipped to meet modern challenges in animal care, public health, and livestock management.

This initiative is expected to contribute significantly to the development of the veterinary and animal husbandry sectors within the region.
