Govt to undertake on-site grade analysis of iron ore

Aims to prevent revenue losses from misclassification

Ahead of the commencement of the new mining season, the State government has decided to undertake comprehensive on-site grade analysis of iron ore and other minerals to prevent revenue losses from misclassification.

For this purpose, the Directorate of Mines and Geology (DMG) will empanel NABL accredited laboratories, located in Goa and the applications for the same have been invited.

NABL is the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories, a constituent board of Quality Council of India.

“In order to prevent mis-classification of the grade of iron ore and other major minerals, the government though DMG, has decided to ascertain grade analysis of mineral ore at the mining sites,” director Narayan Gad said in an order issued.

Around 700 million tons of ore in form of dumps is lying across various mining leases, which the government is set to put up for auction in phase manner. Similarly, there is ore, for which inventory is not done, located on leases for auction.

Gad said that Expression of Interest from various stakeholders for empanelment NABL accredited laboratories located in the State for the purpose of analysis of various radicals of iron ore, manganese ore, bauxite ore, etc.

The laboratories will have to provide the details of investigating facilities they have and also the cost of analysis of each radical.

The empanelment would be initially for a period of three years or till the time NABL certificate is valid. The last date for submission of EOI is October 15.
