OLD GOA
Even as Mandur sarpanch Prashant Naik made the case for State festival status to Intruzotsav, the politicians who participated in the festival were also in agreement that the festival should be recognized as State festival.
When questioned by The Goan, Union Minister Shripad Naik informed, “Through Intruzotsav, the culture and traditions are kept alive by the younger generation and I am glad to say that I am the grandson of Dongrim. The festival definitely deserves to be declared as a State festival as the culture, tradition and art has been preserved.”
St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar said that the Intruzotsav signals the beginning of the Shigmo festival in the State and hence it has to be recognized as State festival.
“I am working towards getting the festival a State festival status and have already met CM Pramod Sawant on the issue,” he added.
"This is a unique festival of Dongrim and needs preservation for posterity," the MLA said.
Aldona MLA Adv Carlos Ferreira also agreed that such festivals which have kept the local traditions and culture alive should be declared as State festival.
“This way, the festival will figure in the State festival calendar and give it recognition worldwide thereby helping promote the culture, the traditions and the art,” Ferreira added while stating that the community will also benefit from the same.
RGP president Manoj Parab, in fact, said that he feels blessed as the Mandur sarpanch Prashant Naik and the local MLA Viresh Borkar belong to the party.
“And our party is going to work towards getting State festival status to Intruzotsav and it will also feature in the party’s manifesto for the Lok Sabha polls,” Parab added.
