Jewellery and cash worth Rs 4 lakh was burgled from a house in Tuem-Pernem in broad daylight on Tuesday.
According to police the burglary at the residence of Anil Sawant took place at about 10 am when the house was unoccupied at the time.
The burglar reportedly used a coconut husk peeler to break open the safe and stole three gold chains, jewellery, and cash.
Anil Sawant's brother-in-law was cutting grass using a machine and later went to Anil’s house at about 1 pm to keep his machine, when he saw the main door unlocked.
He alerted Anil and when they entered the house, the found the rooms ransacked and the burglar had escaped escaped through the back door.
The police was notified and a police team led by Pernem DySP Salim Sheikh went to the site to conduct investigations.
Locals claimed that a lot of migrants live along the same road where Sawant’s house was burgled and there is growing suspicion that they could be involved in the burglary.
