Upping the ante against Mhadei water diversion, the Save Goa, Save Mhadei Front on Sunday resolved to take the campaign to schools and colleges and every nook and corner of the State to educate children and people about the injustice that has been meted out to Goa.
Speaking at a meeting in Bicholim, Chairperson of Sanquelim Municipal Council Rajesh Sawal said environmentalist Elsa Fernandes has been invited to create awareness among the people of Goa, because most of them do not have any information on the subject.
Sawal also said the campaign would now be taken to schools, colleges and every block and vaddo.
“After discussing the issue, its advantages and disadvantages with experts, we have drawn a conclusion that people need to awaken and demand their rightful access to waters of Mhadei”, Sawal said.
The State and Central governments have done injustice to the people of Goa by giving nod to Karnataka’s DPR, he said, adding, “the coming days will unfold the adverse impact that Mhadei diversion will have on our lives… we wish to take this message to the masses and our campaign in this direction has already started”.
Claiming that the Goa government is trying to suppress the voice of the people, Sawal asserted that the battle will be taken forward with the help of people.
Stating that this was not a political movement, Sawal said the future generation will question us if we do not save Mhadei now. “What are we going to keep for them? Our water, our land, our animals have to be protected. What would we do if we lose the decomposer from our soil, which allows the waste to decompose? If this decomposer is lost, we will have to live on heaps of garbage. Gases like ammonia and others will be thrown out of soil and habitation would be difficult,” he pointed out.
