The directorate of technical education (DTE) on Monday announced that the students seeking admission to engineering degree courses, for the academic year 2024-25,  will have to answer the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE-Main) 2024, to be conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA) in January and April 2024.

The DTE had announced earlier that the Goa Common Entrance Test (GCET) will stand scrapped from 2024.

DTE has also said that the admissions to BPharm will also be carried out on the basis of best aggregate score in the subjects of physics and chemistry, either at JEE-Main 2024 or National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) 2024.

Accordingly, the aspirants for admissions to BPharm course can opt to answer JEE Main or NEET or Both.

Since 2005, the GCET has been an essential criterion in the State to determine merit for admissions to engineering degree seats. On average, 2,500 students answer this exam, annually. This year, the last GCET was conducted.

The DTE had said that the decision will save students from stress and to compete at national level.

The five engineering colleges that will adapt to these changes are Goa College of Engineering Farmagudi; PCC college Verna, Rayeshwar College Shiroda; Don Bosco Engineering College Fatorda and Agnel Institute of Design Assagao, accounting for a total of approximately 1500 seats. In addition, admissions to NIT will also be determined according to the same criteria.

DTE has asked all the aspiring candidates to thoroughly peruse the information of JEE Main 2024 notified on their official website for information of examination scheme, eligibility, syllabus, application, procedure online and other relevant information.

The round one of JEE Main is scheduled between January 24 to February 1, 2024 while the second session will be held from April 1 to April 15, 2024. The first round dates are just before the Class XII Board examination scheduled from February 28 to March 12, next year.
