Pedestrian succumbs to injuries in Margao mishap

A 67-year-old pedestrian Joseph Baptista, a resident of Margao, has succumbed to injuries after he was knocked down by a bus while crossing the road near the Old Market Circle.

Police informed that the incident occurred on May 30 near the Old Market Circle, Margao, when the accused person Irfan Shaikh, aged 47 years, driver of the Ashok Leyland bus drove his bus in a rash and negligent manner while proceeding from Ravindra Bhavan, Margao to KTC Bus Stand, Margao.

Police said when the bus reached near the Old Market Circle, the accused driver drove his vehicle in a rash and negligent manner, without taking proper care and caution, gave dash to a pedestrian namely Joseph Baptista on the middle of the tar road while the pedestrian was crossing the road.

The pedestrian succumbed to his injuries at South Goa district hospital. The accused driver Irfan Shaikh, aged 47 years, resident of Margao was arrested and released on bail.
