The State government's 'perform or perish' fatwa will extend to government employees across all departments in the State and not restricted only to the staff posted at the State Secretariat.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said, the government order invoking the fundamental Rule 56 (j) of the civil service rules seeking to permanently retire inefficient or disobedient employees in not restricted only to the Secretariat but across government departments.

The order was issued by the general administration department's (GAD) Under Secretary Shaila Bhosle of Tuesday via an 'office memorandum' addressed to heads of all departments in the Secretariat.

It specifically cites service Rule-56 (j) which empowers "appropriate authority" to take the action to prematurely retire a public servant.

Punctuality, lethargy at the work place and disobedience were some of the criteria under which the action under Rule 56 (j) is being contemplated.
