Residents of the Honda area have complained of delays in receiving letters, official documents and online orders, allegedly due to postmen being unfamiliar with local names, wards and residential localities.

As Maharashtra and Goa fall under the same postal recruitment circle, many postmen appointed in Goa are from Maharashtra. Residents claim that some of them struggle to identify local addresses, resulting in delayed or missed deliveries. In several cases, important correspondence has reportedly reached recipients late, causing considerable inconvenience and even the loss of employment opportunities.

A similar situation has been reported in Postwada, Honda, where residents allege that the postman assigned to the area often passes by houses without delivering mail because he is unfamiliar with the names of residents and their addresses. Consequently, people are frequently forced to visit the post office to inquire about pending letters and parcels, leading to unnecessary expenditure of time and money.

Locals say that whenever a new postman is assigned to an area, the outgoing postman should spend at least two or three days familiarising the newcomer with local wards, households and residents. However, they claim this practice is not being followed effectively, leaving new postmen with inadequate knowledge of their delivery areas. As a result, some localities are visited infrequently and postal articles remain undelivered for extended periods.

Residents also recalled past instances in which undelivered letters were allegedly found discarded in bushes, raising concerns about the functioning of the postal department and eroding public confidence in the system.

Delayed deliveries often prevent citizens from receiving crucial information on time. Interview call letters, appointment orders, ATM cards, government documents and other important communications reportedly reach recipients after significant delays, causing hardship and, in some cases, the loss of job opportunities.

Residents have urged the postal department to take immediate corrective measures, including proper orientation and training for newly appointed postmen, to ensure timely and accurate delivery of mail and restore public confidence in postal services in the Honda region.
