This isn’t the first time that an application to set up a fish meal plant at Cuncolim will find a mention at the Cuncolim Municipal Council meeting.
During a previous term, the civic body had discussed about a fish meal plant before unanimously resolving not to issue a NOC for the plant on grounds of pollution. In fact, at that meeting, locals residents had turned up in large numbers to send a message loud and clear to the elected representatives they are opposed to fish meal plants in the Cuncolim Industrial estate and outside.
There has also been a persistent demand to shut down the existing lone fish meal plant at the Industrial estate on the argument that if fish meal plants are polluting in nature, the Cuncolim Industrial estate should not play host to such plants.
The fish meal plant at the Cuncolim IDC was set up a little over a decade ago when the ruling dispensation had issued the permission against the wishes of Cuncolkars.
