VASCO: A 47-year-old railway worker, Anand Naik from Guirim, Mapusa, died at Goa Medical College (GMC), Bambolim, after being injured in a train accident inside the Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) premises.

Police said the incident took place on April 29 at about 3.30 pm while Naik was on duty at the RND Yard near MPA Gate No. 9. A preliminary enquiry suggests that he may have accidentally come in contact with a moving train on Track No. 4, which caused serious injuries to his right arm.

Naik was first taken to the Sub District Hospital in Chicalim and later shifted to GMC in Bambolim for further treatment. However, despite efforts by doctors, he died during treatment.

After receiving a message from the GMC casualty ward, Mormugao police went to the hospital and carried out an inquest panchanama. The body was then sent for postmortem, which was done by a police surgeon. The cause of death was certified as:

“Septicemia and shock in a person undergoing medical and surgical treatment due to extensive soft tissue injury to right arm consequent to blunt force impact by surface and/or object(s).”

The body has been handed over to the family for final rites. Mormugao police have registered a case of unnatural death under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The enquiry is being handled by PSI Vaishnavi Desai under the supervision of PI Sherif Jacques and guidance of DySP Gurudas Kadam.
