Weeks of sparring between Independent Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday culminated in Gaonkar withdrawing his support to the government.
The Sanguem MLA submitted a letter to this effect before Goa Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari.
Last couple of weeks had seen the tension build up between Sawant and Gaonkar over the proposed IIT project at Shel-Melaulim and the mountain of issues plaguing Sanjivani Sugar Factory.
While the Sanguem MLA recently threatened to expose the government over various other fiasco, Sawant alleged that Gaonkar had a "setting" over the land identified by his government for setting up the IIT. In an attempt to strike truce, the two had a meeting just two days ago.
