Aldona MLA Carlos Ferreira had “Sholay” moments when he climbed a water tank, not to jump off but to get first-hand information about the water shortage faced by some villagers in the constituency.
Following complaints of water shortage in certain areas of Aldona constituency, Ferreira conducted an inspection to ascertain the cause of the problem.
The residents of Calvim, Carona, Nachinola and Panarim faced water shortage for the past five days.
During the inspection, the MLA climbed atop the Sai Nagar government water tank after locals brought to his attention that water was not getting pumped due to low pressure.
“After people complained on the WhatsApp group, we provided water tankers to them. We then inspected the tank at Lankadem along with a team of PWD engineers who came after office hours,” Ferreira said.
He informed the locals that water was not getting pumped due to some technical issues at Assonora water treatment plant as well as some problems along the water pipeline route and assured to restore the supply at the earliest.
A PWD engineer present at the inspection informed that low pressure had developed due to air pockets in the pipeline, following which the problem was rectified.
The MLA informed that the PWD engineers have promised to release water for certain hours during the day.
“There is no justification for not supplying water, everyone should get it. The engineers are doing whatever best can be done. I have also requested them to inform the locals via text message in case the supply will be delayed during the day due to low pressure,” he said.
He further said that there was a proposal to replace the pipeline with a bigger one as a long-term solution to the problem and assured to get it sanctioned from the PWD minister.
