The State Transport department has issued show cause notice to Meghna Sawardekar for revocation of driving license for her series of traffic violations prior to the deadly Banastarim fatal accident.

Director Transport Rajan Satardekar said that show Cause Notice is issued by Licensing Authority that is the Assistant Director of Transport Panaji for revocation of driving license for repeated six violations of speed limit.

The AI cameras in Goa have detected six violations of speeding by Sawardekar's car over the past two months, for which she was penalised Rs 1,000 per violation and she failed to pay even one.

Two of these challans were issued for speeding on the same day within few hours of travel.

The ill-fated Mercedes-Benz SUV that killed three people on August 6 at Banastarim Bridge was registered in the name of Meghna. According to the police, on the day of accident her husband Paresh was driving the car. He is currently in police custody.

The department had taken suo-motu cognisance of the serious traffic offences.

Satardekar said that as per the law RTO hearing is required under the MV Act prior to suspension and they were following the procedure.

As per AI system, the traffic violator gets a message on their registered mobile number reminding them that they have a month's time for payment. For speeding, violators are fined Rs 1,000 for the first violation and Rs 1,500 for the subsequent violation.
