St Cruz BJP Block President Pramod Kamat was elected unopposed as sarpanch of Merces, the election for which was held in the panchayat hall on Saturday.
The post had fallen vacant after former sarpanch Assis Fernandes had stepped down recently as part of the power-sharing agreement.
Later speaking to reporters, Kamat thanked Rahul Tendulkar for extending him support for the sarpanch’s post.
“I thank Tendulkar, in particular, for having given me an opportunity to become the sarpanch. I also thank CM Pramod Sawant,” he stated while adding that it would be his priority to undertake development in the village during his tenure.
Meanwhile, sources informed that panch Sushant Govekar was supposed to take over as the sarpanch. However, at the last moment, Kamat’s name was proposed for the post.
