As heavy rains continue to leave trails of destruction on the fourth consecutive day on Tuesday, the State recorded over 45 per cent surplus rainfall so far for the season. The total seasonal rainfall has touched the 83-inch mark (2133.3mm) till date.

The State has been experiencing incessant rainfall for over a week that resulted in multiple instances of flooding, waterlogging on roads, houses, and low-lying areas as well as tree felling and landslides. The India Meteorological Department (Goa) has issued a heavy rainfall warning till July 20.

As of Tuesday morning, Valpoi recorded the highest rainfall at 2423.5mm, followed by Sanguem with 2417.7mm and Sanquelim with 2347.3mm. Panaji recorded 2088.1mm, while Dabolim had the least with 1746.3mm.

The State was on Red alert on Tuesday, with the IMD Goa declaring an Orange alert for Wednesday.

The IMD also issued an alert to fishermen and coastal residents on surging waves near the shore and beach region, particularly the low lying areas.

Amid heavy rains, the dams are also crossing the upper limit mark. The Water Resources Department released the water from Anjunem dam in Sattari around 11:45 am by opening all four gates by 5cm each. The reservoir is 86 percent full. Earlier on Monday, water from the Tillari dam was partially released.
