PANAJI
Taleigo BJP leader Dattaprasad Naik on Tuesday resigned from the primary membership of BJP and announced that he would work to defeat BJP candidates from Taleigao and Panaji constituencies.
"As a BJP worker, I accepted Babush and Jennifer Monserrate for thye last three years. But now, we cannot accept their leadership in Taleigao and Panaji constituencies,” said Naik.
He clarified that he would not join any other party and would not contest elections, but would work for Utpal Parrikar and a suitable candidate in Taleigao constituency other than Jennifer Monserrate.
"I will work in full swing to see that Utpal wins in Panaji constituency. Regarding Taleigao constituency, I will take a decision on whom to support once the process of filing of nominations and withdrawals is over,” said Naik.
Admitting that his wife, Dr Sheetal Naik, is a BJP mahila leader, Dattaprasad said this wife is free to take her own political decision and would not force his decision on her.
Dattaprasad Naik was a former spokesman of BJP and was removed from that post in March 2021. He had also contested elections in Taleigao constituency against Babush Monserrate.
Meanwhile, former Panaji mayor Surendra Furtado stated that he and his son have not yet decided on whom to support in the elections, adding that it was Utpal Parrikar who had visited them at their residence.
A photo of Furtado, his son, Vladimir, and Utpal during a visit had been shared on social media.
