With persistent power outages disrupting daily life in several villages, a delegation comprising representatives from the panchayats of Chinchinim, Dramapur, and Sarzora met officials from the Electricity Department on Monday, urging immediate intervention to resolve the issue.
The delegation — including Chinchinim Sarpanch Frank Viegas, Dramapur Deputy Sarpanch Avita Vaz, and Sarzora Sarpanch Leona Fernandes — submitted formal representations demanding uninterrupted power supply and enhanced support infrastructure, particularly during night hours.
Citing widespread inconvenience to residents and disruption to essential services, the panchayat members flagged the absence of adequate staff during the night shift and the shortage of service vehicles. “One of the major concerns is the lack of staff available during the night shift to attend to electrical faults. This results in prolonged outages, leaving residents without support during critical hours,” said Dramapur Deputy Sarpanch Avita Vaz.
The delegation noted that only one service vehicle is currently deployed to attend to faults across all three villages — a situation they described as “highly inadequate” considering the size and population of the area.
The panchayats have recommended the immediate strengthening of night shift staffing, the allocation of a dedicated service vehicle for Dramapur, and the provision of necessary tools such as ladders. They also urged the department to initiate tree-trimming operations to prevent weather-related disruptions.
Assuring full cooperation, Chinchinim Sarpanch Frank Viegas said the panchayats are willing to work closely with the Power Department to resolve the recurring issues that continue to impact public well-being.
