Traffic congestion in the main market area of Valpoi municipality has become a major concern over the past several years, causing significant inconvenience to the general public.

Haphazard and indiscriminate parking by some motorists has further aggravated the situation, leading to frequent traffic jams.

With no concrete steps taken to address the issue, citizens allege that authorities have remained completely inactive.

Residents have expressed strong dissatisfaction, pointing out that the Valpoi Municipal Council has failed to implement any effective measures to resolve the traffic problem in the last five years.

According to available information, Valpoi—the main commercial hub of Sattari taluka—has been facing severe traffic congestion for nearly a decade.

The presence of government offices, banks, schools, and other establishments attracts a large number of people from surrounding rural areas. Traffic congestion is especially severe during morning and afternoon peak hours.

Traffic jams during school hours have become a major source of stress for parents. A large number of vehicles enter the town as parents drop off and pick up their children, leading to overcrowding on roads.

Although police personnel are deployed near schools to ensure students’ safety, traffic flow remains disrupted. Parents have voiced their frustration, noting that despite repeated efforts by citizens and media to highlight the issue over the past decade, authorities have failed to take meaningful action.

Although the central market area is relatively wide, unregulated parking has narrowed the usable road space, creating difficulties for vehicles to pass.

Many drivers ignore parking rules, and some even allegedly use political influence to avoid police action. Proper parking management could significantly ease congestion, but reckless behavior by motorists continues to worsen the situation.

On the stretch from Valpoi town to the City Hall complex on the Thane road, vehicles are parked on both sides, severely affecting traffic movement.

Despite the problem persisting for over ten years, citizens claim that no authority has taken serious initiative to resolve it. The municipality has reportedly not conducted any effective meetings on this issue in the past five years. This has led to public anger, with many questioning whether anyone is accountable for Valpoi’s growing traffic crisis.

Residents and parents insist that without a planned parking system, the traffic congestion problem cannot be resolved. They have appealed to authorities to recognise the seriousness of the issue—especially the risk posed to students—and take urgent corrective measures.
