The Water Resources Department (WRD) is set to conduct a rescheduled site inspection of the natural spring at Oxel in Siolim on Friday, November 8, at 11 am.

The inspection, under the directive of the High Court, aims to assess the potential environmental impact of a multi-dwelling construction project located close to the heritage spring.

The inspection has drawn attention from various community and environmental groups, with the Goa Green Brigade calling on local residents to join them at the site as a show of solidarity.

Following the inspection, the Goa Green Brigade has also organized a clean-up drive to maintain and protect the area around the spring.

The initiative aims to highlight both the ecological significance of the site and the community’s commitment to its preservation.

Activists and concerned citizens are expected to gather in significant numbers to voice their concerns about the construction’s possible effects on the fragile ecosystem surrounding the spring.

Many local residents have expressed opposition, fearing that the project could disrupt the natural water flow and adversely impact the biodiversity sustained by the spring.

This inspection comes as local and environmental groups push for greater oversight of construction projects near natural landmarks, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding Goa’s ecological heritage for future generations.
