Under fire over inaction against escort service websites, Goa Police on Thursday claimed that the Cyber Crime Cell has been identifying such illegal platforms and ensuring these are blocked.

The statement came soon after Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao took to X, posting a list of websites advertising escort services in Goa – coinciding with a two-day international conference on sex trafficking that concluded on Thursday.

“Cyber Crime Cell regularly identifies illegal platforms and ensures they are blocked under the IT Act 2000. A similar list has been compiled recently and agencies have been notified to take necessary action. Additionally, legal action will be pursued against those responsible,” Goa Police said through its official X handle.

Alemao pointed out how these websites would be an attack on Goa tourism while asking Chief Minister Pramod Sawant – also Home Minister – to block these websites.

“There are hundreds of escort service websites providing services in Goa. This brings a bad name to our rich cultured state. Recently, a tourist made lewd comments against the daughter of Goa. Don’t turn Tourism Paradise into Parasite. @CMOGoa block these websites using the double engine,” he stated.

The LoP further revealed that these websites reveal phone numbers of vulnerable girls/women and places where they can arrange this service. Despite this, Alemao alleged, the government has failed to take action against them and block them. He also charged that the government failed to take action on ‘male escort services’ which are run through a hush-hush network.
